Chloe and I have been having fun making her costume. She wanted to be a saguaro cactus. I'm not making this up. She came up with the idea all on her own.
Of course, from someone who was a funny hat for Halloween last year, it's not so surprising.
Here are two work-in-progress photos of her costume, which is basically eggcrate foam. We folded the foam in half, flat side out, and had her lie down on it, and I drew the basic shape with a marker. Then we sewed it with big stitches, cut it out, and turned it inside out. We took turns sewing and she worked hard on it. Then I fixed all the holes from where our stitching was bad. Then I sprayed it green. These pics are pre-painting.
Awesome! How how will she carry candy? Well I guess you can just hang a candy bag on one of her branches...
ReplyDeleteAlso, I hope it's cold on the 31st!
ReplyDeleteThat totally rocks!
ReplyDeleteOh sure -- all fun and games until you add...THE NEEDLES
ReplyDeleteVery Cool -- potentially Cruel -- kid's costume
She's probably the only person I know who can pull this off without her arms getting tired!
ReplyDeleteLooks awesome. I predict that people will say, "that's a great Gumby costume!"
ReplyDeleteKind of like Aaron's spaceman costume one year that was universally admired as looking just like a classic Mac computer.
Just tell Chloe not to punch anyone who guesses wrong. Though the padding might protect them.
Ha! Doug! You called it! She wore it to the elementary school's Fall Fest yesterday, and two different people guessed her theme as Gumby! And then they felt old because of course she had no idea who Gumby was!
ReplyDeletePlease post a photo of this in green~!
ReplyDeleteIt is only now, after many years, that I can really laugh at the fact that my Retro Spaceman costume was UNIVERSALLY perceived by all to be a classic Mac. "Great Mac costume!" Grrr.
ReplyDeleteTara: you should know it's not easy being green.
Woo-hoo! I was right. So rare that it feels good.
ReplyDeleteAaron, one of the things I love about you is that I think you would genuinely have been happier to have one or two people say, "Pretty good Retro Spaceman costume" than to have at least a dozen people tell you "Awesome Mac costume!"
I think they call that being true to yourself, or authentic, or something like that.
You know me. The third person (or first cute girl) who said, "I love your Mac costume!" and I would be wearing a Mac costume as far as I or anyone else was concerned.
