Crazy steampunk figures

I assume this is for some steampunk wargame or something. Not just steampunk; alternate history Nazi Germany still around with steampunk whatever. More pics at the link.

Man, Alternate History Nazis are like vampires; you can't throw a stick without hitting one (and the stick won't help you as much against the damned Nazis as it will the bloodsuckers). I just know there is a series out there about alternate history Nazi vampires.

But wow, that is a beautiful model. Though I went to the game store with Will yesterday and was SHOCKED at how much the miniatures cost. Not a hobby I could afford.

Following the link, I also like the fact that when seen from behind, Streetbot Willy's saddle bags make it look like he has an ass-crack.

  3. Heh. I've been reduced, lately, to rationalizing the cost of figures against the amount of entertainment -- assembly, painting, and then gameplay. Except I'm not actually doing much gameplay. I do love assembling them though.

I suppose what confuses me is how a small unpainted model of a robot can cost as much or more than a hardcover game book that took many hours for multiple people to write, edit (okay, the editing might have been rushed in many cases), illustrate, layout, and publish. That's not to mention playtest time for those who do it.

This is the sort of thing that I would think should get much, MUCH cheaper when there are personal and street-corner maker shops available, the same way that electronic publishing greatly lowered the cost of getting into rpgs. For minis, just get the license for the directions for the sculpt and produce it from materials you bring in.
