Traveller maps online

I feel I would be remiss in not mentioning this Traveller map web site, which displays maps of the Imperium and surrounding areas in any scale you like. It's enough to make me regret that I've never managed to actually play Traveller with any success.

My mother would not be interested in these maps, I know, but she'd appreciate how excited I got about them and make encouraging noises.

  1. Thank god I had just finished drinking my glass of water when I read that second paragraph. Still almost got some up my nose.

  4. You know, I feel real guilt at not properly exploring the Imperium. I spent a lot of time a few years ago lurking on a Traveller mailing list.

  5. I just love how the Imperium is such an anachronistic future and how people have gone to such great lengths (myself included, at times) to figure out rationales in which a government ruled by hereditary nobility, free traders operating across light years, and giant space fleets works alongside the completely skewed tech tree. Once it was considered hard sci-fi and now it's practically as escapist as Star Wars or Star Trek.

  7. I LOVED the aliens and still do. Even the Aslan lion-people and the Vargr wolf-people were made cool. But not without effort.

I think the things that make Traveller poor hard sci-fi are the very things that make it more fun as a setting to play in (or in our cases, to dream in).
