Here's an
interesting article in The Atlantic that suggests that we've been getting smarter in response to evolutionary pressures for a long time, and that we'll continue to do so, and that the development of AI will thus come about as a tool of expanded intelligence, not an event that destroys human history as
the Singularity idea suggests. This idea smacks of synthesis, a sensible response to the frightening concept of the Singularity.
